What do you want out of Your Life?

Life oh life ooohhhh lifeeeee

In the last week a presidential candidate came close to losing his life through an attempted assassination. Two days after the ordeal the man was out there again. This makes one question, “What does such a man want out of life?” Or rather “What do you want out of life?”

You get this career of business, climb the corporate ladder. You make profit in a business and keep on opening many branches but what do you want out of life? You wake up early to go to work, update your Facebook status like you’re addicted to it. What do you want out of life ?

My Christians friends would say, “Hey look everything we do it’s all for God” That is valid yet it doesn’t resonate with most people especially those that are not Christian. So I will ask you again. What do you want out of your life?

In the grand scheme of things all people have needs that they are trying to meet. They might do a million things but whether you go to church, school, work, get married, have kids etc you’re meeting a need.

There are six basic human needs that you can meet:

  1. Security: Julia got married recently and in her speech she expressed how as a young girl she always dreamt of dwelling in the safety of her own husband and children. To her marriage is a means to security.
  2. Variety: The second need people meet is variety. You don’t want to go to the same restaurant, wear the same shoes. Why? We desire variety so we go out and buy different fabric.
  3. Connectedness: People desire to be connected to something. A church, company, school etc. It gives them a sense of identity. One could belong to a tribe and say things like, “Us the Banyale we don’t…….4. Growth: If you’re not growing, you’re slowly during. Death comes in many forms for a person not growing. They will experience frustration, feeling stuck and eventually quitting. Growth=happiness.
  4. Sharing: Have you ever been driving downtown, stopped and gave a street kid a banana? How did it feel ? Fulfilling ? Of course we like to give more of ourselves. Mother Theresa shared everything she had plus what she raised. She was meeting the need to share.
  5. Love: We are love beings. We love to be loved and to love. It’s the strongest force and need that a human being experiences. You ascribe to a faith because you start a relationship with a God who loves you unconditionally. You love to work at places where a boss cares- that is love.
So once gain what do you want out of your life? The answer is simple: to meet the needs that God put in you as a person.
