It’s a humid Tuesday morning around 10:00 am . Every week Bob – a successful bank manager goes through his routine on checking the bank deposit slips of the past week to identify patterns. He sees a familiar name, Muhtar Kaka. He goes ahead to check the bio and realizes Muhtar is the son to his neighbor.
What is even more amazing is, Muhtar is seventeen years old has no job but banks $1,000 every week.
That evening Bob goes home early and calls on his neighbors- Muhtar’s parents. “Your sons deposits $1,000 to my branch every week. Do you have an idea on where he gets the money?” As the parents look dumbfounded, Bob goes on, “ such money for a teenager who has no job could mean he is into drugs or gambling”
The next when Muhtar went to bank his $1,000 he was greeted by Bob, “Hey Muhtar, how are you. I notice you make weekly deposits into your account without a job. Are you a drug dealer or a gambler?”
Muhtar: “Hi Mr. Bob, I gamble”
Bob: “ That’s interesting. How are you consistently winning then?”
Muhtar, “ I gamble on certainties. In fact let’s make a bet. By this time next week you will have a wooden nose. I am betting $1,000”
Muhtar returned the next week with a friend escorting. They went straight to Bob, office.
“Mr. Bob I am back”, said Muhtar.
Bob: “I hope you came with $1,000 because my nose is not wooden yet”
Muhtar: “The bet is only valid if I tough your nose and verify”
Muhtar reached over and touched Bob’s nose, twisted it and slapped it. As he was doing this his friend fainted.
Bob in amazement asked Muhtar was the problem was, “I made a bet with my friend for $2,000 and I would win if I touched your nose, twisted it and slapped it”
The next day Muhtar gave Bob $1,000 and banked $1,000
Lesson: Muhtar’s thinking saved him from being perceived as an irresponsible person but it earned him $1,000 for that week’s deposit.
Thinking is a skill. Would you be infested in learning it ?
