If there’s something most people don’t want to hear during this seemingly endless lockdown- planning for the future. “How can I plan for the future that isn’t certain?” so they think. Are they right? Let’s find out!
Former Boxing Heavy Weight Champion, Mike Tyson once said, “Everyone has a plan until they are punched in the face”. Some of you have lost jobs, some people’s businesses are struggling and you just don’t know what to do. I totally get it when you don’t feel like looking to the future and instead wait on the Lockdown to be lifted before you become pumped about the future again. But is waiting all you can do?
In 2018 I looked at the plan for China for 2015-2025, what caught my eye was there was nothing connected to them being the manufacturing king like we have come to know them. In the wake of COVID-19, China has registered more millionaires than any other country. What do they know that you and I don’t Know? In the 80s when Donald Trump became bankrupt he went to his team and conveyed a message to his Executives that sounded like “madness on the top of a mountain” I was having a chat with my mother one time and she told me what she did when she lost her husband – my late dad with children to educate and feed.
Whether you are a mother, President or nation you ought to know what’s do when things don’t go according to plan if you are going to embrace the so-called “new normal”.
My mum secured all her late husband’s assets, got an education in business as she continued working. Trump told his team to plan for $200 million dollar hotel construction project when he was in the middle of bankruptcy. China knew that one day the manufacturing process would be gone and they concentrated on small business support, aerospace equipment etc.
So as you can see, the best things to do when things are not going right are:
- Gather the spoils, educate yourself for the future like my dear mother
- Think big to inspire the next move like Trump.
- Self-disrupt like China.
Now you know what do, GO DO IT!
