According to Amelia Kyambadde– Uganda’s Minister of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives, over 4,200 companies closed down during the recent lockdown. These Companies are culprits of diminished consumption and cash flows. Cash to a business is like oxygen to a human being. The absence of these two elements leads to death in both cases. In the case of a business strapped for cash, paying salaries becomes laboured leading to pay cuts or layoffs.
For those who have received pay cuts or were laid off or even for those that have completely lost business, such have lost control; You knew exactly how to spend your salary until you got a pay cut. Your life’s plan was halted when you lost your job. You knew how much revenue came through your business, planned growth around that revenue every month until the pandemic hit. Control is a great thing but elusive in an ever-changing world.
There are many people who need to move on but do not know exactly how to do so. I have good news, I am here to help you make the transition from where you are to where you have always wanted to be, 2020 can still be a great year;
“There are some people who live in a dream world, and there are some who face reality, and then there are those who turn one into the other,” says former Canadian Senator Douglas Everett. I usually tell employees that, “your employer is responsible for how much they pay you but you are responsible for how much you earn” The details of your life are your responsibility; find personal peace and happiness in that.
When you take on the attitude of responsibility, the power to change your life becomes available. I have never seen a powerful and irresponsible person. After accepting responsibility, “lighten up” about those things that are not in your control. If we attempt to control events we can’t influence, we are in for a disappointment. It is difficult to determine what we cannot control. Instead, obsess about the things you can control; the new business, applying for new jobs, looking for alternative sources of income, becoming a freelancer etc. Concentrate on those things. You will be amazed at how things will turn in your favour.
As I conclude remember pain is inevitable but suffering is optional. Suffering comes when one obsesses about themselves; what we’re getting or not getting what we should have done. Refuse to suffer, take back your power and do something about your life.
